The UAE on Tuesday launched its first passenger train service between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, reducing the journey to 1 hour and 45 minutes from a trip previously made mainly by road. Operated by Etihad Rail, the service is the first phase of a planned national passenger rail network, with trains capable of speeds of up to 200 km/h.

. Gunjan Chaurasia, Dubai resident said , "It was a very smooth experience. The staff were well trained, kind and courteous, and the train started and arrived on time. We also got to see landscapes you do not usually see from the road."

Etihad Rail said the passenger service marks the first phase of its nationwide rail network, with the project expected to transform travel and connectivity across the UAE.
