The protest is one of a number in the nation's capital that coincides with Wednesday’s congressional vote expected to certify the Electoral College results giving Joe Biden the presidency. Trump continues to dispute those results, however.
The White House says Trump will personally address a gathering of his supporters in Washington as he seeks to rally populist support for his last-ditch efforts to overturn his loss to Biden. The White House confirmed Trump will speak at a rally on the Ellipse just south of the White House. Election officials from both political parties, governors in key battleground states and Trump’s former attorney general, William Barr, have said there was no widespread fraud in the election. Nearly all the legal challenges from Trump and his allies have been dismissed by judges, including two rejected by the Supreme Court.
