Tree-planting Ceremony: Rakhine State CM joined the tree planting

The third monsoon season tree-planting ceremony of Rakhine State for 2025 was held at the compound of the Ywar Gaung Ywar Thit Basic Education School in Bume Ward, Sittwe Township in the morning on July 26. Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, Chief Justice of the State High Court, members of the State Government, departmental personnel, teachers, and representatives from social organizations attended the ceremony.

At the event, Chief Minister U Htein Lin stated that the third monsoon tree-planting ceremony of 2025 was being held with the objectives of protecting water, land, forests, biodiversity, and the natural environment; mitigating climate change and natural disasters; preventing drought and heatwaves; and increasing forest coverage. The Chief Minister stressed that the Rakhine State Government prioritizes environmental conservation and is actively working on forest establishment as a national responsibility to mitigate climate change and promote climate justice. He called for the cooperation of ethnic communities, youth, departments, and both local and international organizations in these efforts.

Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister, the Chief Justice, and members of the State Government distributed saplings to departmental personnel and participating organizations. They then participated in planting various tree species, including Sal tree, Padauk, teak, star-flower, Pyinma, and Pyinkado.

Afterward, the Chief Minister and officials toured the area to encourage representatives from departments, teachers, and members of social organizations as they planted trees. In total, over 1,000 trees were planted in the third monsoon season tree-planting ceremony in Sittwe, including species such as teak, star-flower, Pyinma, Pyinkado, mahogany.

After that, the Chief Minister and officials visited the Khaung Doke Kar (2) IDP camp in Sittwe Township, where the construction of 40 buildings using timber posts, fencing, and zinc roofs (each measuring 48 feet in length and 30 feet in width), along with the installation of 24 water tanks, is underway. At the briefing hall, the construction officer from the Sittwe military station explained the progress of the completed and ongoing work, as well as the current status of the arrival of construction materials. The Chief Minister coordinated with the responsible personnel to ensure the necessary requirements were met.

Following this, the Chief Minister and officials inspected the ongoing reconstruction efforts at Khaung Doke Kar (2) IDP camp. The construction officer gave a detailed explanation of the progress. The Chief Minister also personally met and greeted the camp residents in a friendly and cordial manner.

Later, the Chief Minister and officials visited farmland in the Kan Taw Gyi field, located in the Industrial Ward of Sittwe, to inspect the planned cultivation of model monsoon paddy plots. The Chairperson of the Sittwe District Administration Body and other responsible personnel explained the land preparations and the potential for cultivating monsoon paddy, winter crops, and various vegetables. The Chief Minister instructed the relevant officials to provide the necessary support and facilitate the needs accordingly, it’s reported.
