Trade Inspection: Illegal goods worth about 12 billion kyats seized

Regarding illegal trade, goods worth about 12 billion kyats were seized at the 16-mile Kyauk Chaw Checkpoint through which more than 350 vehicles for export and about 100 vehicles for import pass for daily trade.  

Thet Tun Aung, Director, Customs Department (Mandalay) said "Currently, at the Checkpoint, illegal goods worth about 12 billion kyats were confiscated which included trucks carrying sesame trucks that avoided the Checkpoint, consumer goods, weapons, military equipment and explosive materials. In Customs Department, we have formed the Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force to conduct the re-surprise check to ensure that the employees do not bribe."

At the 16-mile Kyauk Chaw Checkpoint, the vehicle monitoring system with QR code was tested starting on 1st February and has been approved and used since 11th February this year.
