President U Min Aung Hlaing laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk on Thursday, during his official visit to Belarus.
The wreath-laying ceremony was held to pay tribute to soldiers and others who died during the Second World War. The Victory Monument stands in the center of Victory Square, one of Minsk's major landmarks. The monument was unveiled in 1954 and commemorates Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought in the war and the liberation of Belarus.
The monument is a 38-meter granite obelisk topped by a replica of the Soviet Order of Victory. An eternal flame burns at its base, while bronze reliefs depict wartime scenes and honor those who died in the liberation of Belarus. Victory Square was renamed and developed as a memorial in 1954.
