Myanmar’s largest basic education-level Space Painting, Cartoon and Poster Competition opened at People's Square in Yangon on Friday. The event was formally opened by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, and concerned officials as well as General Director Mr. Dmitry V. Bakanov from Russia's Roscosmos.

A humanoid robot also took part in the opening ceremony and demonstrations. In his speech, the Chief Minister said space science and satellite technology are becoming increasingly important for Myanmar’s development. He noted that the Yangon Space Museum, opened on November 30, 2025, has already attracted more than 100,000 visitors, showing strong public interest in space science.

The three-day competition runs until March 1. Students are competing under different themes, “Space Heroes” for primary level, “Exploring the Space World” for middle school level, and “Future Space Technology” for high school level.

More than 6,000 students from across Yangon Region are taking part in the competition. Winners will receive first, second, third and 10 special awards, while all participants will be awarded certificates and commemorative gifts.
