Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services, issued an announcement on the Temporary Ceasefire Period on May 6, 2025.
The announcement described that due to the widespread damage caused by the Mandalay Earthquake of 28 March which resulted in severe destruction, the Tatmadaw declared a temporary ceasefire period from April 2 to 30, 2025 to facilitate accelerated rescue, relief, and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.
Currently, the Government continues to vigorously carry out rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts in earthquake-hit regions, including the restoration of government offices, residential homes, and transportation infrastructure. Additionally, international aid efforts are being coordinated to support these initiatives.
To further expedite reconstruction and rehabilitation in the affected areas, to better serve the interests of the state and its citizens, to promote lasting and genuine peace, and to ensure stability and tranquility, the Tatmadaw has decided to extend the temporary ceasefire period from 6 May to 31 May 2025.
During this declared ceasefire period, ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) and other armed groups are strictly warned against disrupting or attacking public transportation and communication routes, endangering the lives and property of civilians, attacking security outposts or harassing military command centers responsible for law enforcement and public security, mobilizing forces, preparing for conflict, or expanding territorial control, as such actions would undermine peace efforts. Should any group violate these terms, the Tatmadaw will take necessary countermeasures to protect the people and uphold state security.
