The head of the World Health Organization called on the international community on Friday to help fund the distribution of coronavirus vaccines to every country in the world that required it.
Speaking in Geneva, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said his organization needed at least 4.3 billion US dollars to buy vaccines for the neediest countries.
He urged leaders to translate the commitment to deliver vaccines effectively into action. Tedros said the WHO is committed with other organizations to supply the vaccines to developing nations through COVAX, an ambitious global initiative to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to countries worldwide. With the festive holidays approaching, Tedros also issued a warning, urging people not to relax their guard because celebration can very quickly turn to sadness if we fail to take the right precautions.
