Taking oath of allegiance: SAC Chairman attended taking oath of allegiance by MMC

A ceremony of taking oath of allegiance by the members of the Myanmar Media Council was held at the office of the State Administration Council in Nay Pyi Taw on 10th December was attended by the Chairman of the State Administration Council and the Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who delivered a speech.

The event was also attended by the Council’s Secretary, General Aung Lin Dwe, the Joint-Secretary General Ye Win Oo, council members, Union-level officials, Union ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, Deputy Ministers, and other responsible individuals, as well as the Chairman of the Myanmar Media Council, Dr. Tin Tun Oo, the Vice Chairmen and members along with the Secretary and Joint-Secretary.

Firstly, the Chairman of the Myanmar Media Council, Dr. Tin Tun Oo, the Vice Chairmen and members along with the Secretary and Joint-Secretary took the oath of allegiance in front of the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Subsequently, in his speech, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister emphasized that the media sector is regarded as the fourth pillar of the state, underlining its importance. He also highlighted that the media council is vital for the continuous development of the media industry, and the council is dedicated to advancing the media sector.

The Prime Minister further stated that the country is committed to establishing a democratic political system, grounded in democracy and federalism. He emphasized that, within a democratic society, freedom of speech and expression is crucial, and good governance and development are essential.

The Prime Minister called for efforts to balance and harmonize these needs to ensure proper functioning. He noted that the Constitution guarantees the right of every citizen to freely express their beliefs and opinions unless they contravene laws related to national security, the rule of law, or public order. He stressed that freedoms and rights should be exercised responsibly, and it is equally important to follow duties, obligations, and ethical conduct.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the media's role, especially in a time when powerful political and economic groups attempt to manipulate media for their own purposes, potentially distorting public opinion. He warned against media outlets using their platforms to spread bias or to incite conflict, which could destabilize developing countries, particularly small nations. He also mentioned the core democratic principle of "tolerance for diversity," which allows individuals to understand and respect differing viewpoints. This principle should be embraced by all media personnel. He urged media workers to avoid using their influence for personal or group interests but to focus on the greater good of the country and its citizens.

In closing, the Prime Minister urged media personnel to act with integrity, avoid becoming tools of any group or individual, and instead serve the public interest with impartiality and ethical standards. He called for a unified effort to resist attempts to incite chaos and division within the country.

Following the ceremony, the SAC Chairman along with other council members, took a group photo with the members of the Myanmar Media Council. After that, the Prime Minister personally greeted the members of the Myanmar Media Council and hosted them for tea.
