






The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee held a coordination meeting (2/2025) at the Ministry of Commerce meeting Hall in Nay Pyi Taw on May 26. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, Vice Senior General Soe Win, in his capacity as Chairman of the Steering Committee delivered an opening speech.
In his opening speech, the SAC Vice Chairman stated that during the Security, Stability, and Rule of Law Committee Meeting held on March 19, 2025, the Chairman of the State Administration Council had emphasized that illegal trade constitutes a violation of state laws, can finance terrorist groups, and undermines regional peace, stability, and security.
Therefore, relevant ministries and Regions and States governments were instructed to eliminate illegal trade activities decisively. He further explained that in other economic-related meetings, the Prime Minister had also continuously instructed for effective prevention of illegal trade.
As such, he urged participants to pay special attention to the issue and to continue working with greater cooperation between the Nay Pyi Taw Council, special regional/state-level committees, and relevant departments to intensify efforts against illegal production and illegal trade. Following that, Deputy Minister for Commerce U Min Min, who serves as the Secretary of the Steering Committee, presented an update on the implementation of the decisions from Meeting (1/2025) and the progress of the Committee’s current operations.
Subsequently, department heads and director generals from the Committee’s office read and presented the submitted letters and reports during the meeting. Then, Union Ministers who are also members of the Steering Committee U Win Shein, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, U Tun Ohn, Chairman of the Revenue Tribunal U Myint Oo, along with members from the Nay Pyi Taw Council, and Chairs and officials of Regions and States Special Anti-Illegal Trade Task Forces—presented and discussed updates on their respective anti-illegal trade efforts.
Then, Chairman of Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, coordinated on the points presented during the meeting and delivered concluding remarks.
