State Administration Council Spokesperson Expresses Gratitude to International and Domestic Rescue Teams for Myanmar Earthquake Relief Efforts. Regarding the earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March 2025, the leader of the State Administration Council's Information Team, Ma-J Gen. Zaw Min Tun, expressed gratitude to international and domestic rescue teams assisting in relief operations.
First, Ma-J Gen. Zaw Min Tun provided the latest casualty figures: over 1,700 deaths, more than 3,400 injured, and over 300 missing. He stated that authorities are working hard to treat the injured and continue searching for the missing. He extended special thanks to the People’s Republic of China, India, Russia, and ASEAN member countries for sending rescue teams to assist Myanmar.
The leader of information team issued important safety guidelines for rescue volunteers: to use protective gear (gloves, helmets, goggles) when handling dead bodies or clearing debris, to boil water before drinking to prevent disease and to be cautious of extreme heat, as the disaster occurred during Myanmar’s hot summer season. He urged the public to avoid crowding around collapsed buildings, as the aftershocks are still occurring, posing further danger, onlookers hinder rescue operations and put themselves at risk.
Civilians should stay in safe areas unless directly assisting in relief efforts. The rescuers including Red Cross volunteers, military personnel, firefighters, and police force member are working without adequate protective gear (gloves, helmets, goggles). The leader of information team called on local and international donors to provide these essential supplies. Ma-J Gen. Zaw Min Tun thanked domestic media for their positive and responsible reporting, encouraging national unity and resilience in overcoming this disaster. He urged that "Together, with solidarity and determination, we will overcome this natural disaster."
