








A Space Museum is opened in Yangon's People's Square on Sunday, with the attendance of Acting President and Chairman of State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. After formal opening of the ceremony, the Acting President and attendees unveiled the signboard of the Planetarium.
They then viewed the GOTO Planetarium Analog Projection System which was used in the previous facility as the Planetarium. The newly opened Space Museum features various booths on Deep Space Exploration, Space Station, miniatures of rockets and space ships launched by Russia, China, India and the US in successive eras, small-scale satellites orbiting in the space and demonstration of rocket launchers.
In his speech, the Acting President said the apace science and its applied technologies are essential in building a modern and developed nation. He added the Space Museum will provide idea for the youths, contributing to the emergence of astronauts, scientists, engineers and other experts in related sector, needed for the development of the nation.
He reiterated that the Government has formed the Myanmar Space Agency for peaceful use of space technologies for socio-economic development, and implementations are underway by laying down the short and long term plans in cooperation with the international partner organizations. He highlighted the opportunities for Myanmar youth to participate in the activities on space technology.
He also recalled the successful participation of Myanmar youths in the Open World Astronomy Olympiad and International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues, held in Russia. He also stressed the importance of space research works and satellite technologies, benefitting the nation's defence, security, economy, transport, social, health and education sector.
He called for nurturing the youths who can keep abreast with the international peers for today's challenging space field and new opportunities. The Space Museum is an upgraded facility of the Planetarium, built in 1987 with the assistance of Japan. The previous analog system equipment has been replaced with the digital projection system, along with the exhibition booths.
