Social Welfare assistances: Social welfare assistances provided in Myitkyina

The coordination meeting on the tasks carrying out by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement was held at the Malikha Hall of Kachin State Government Office in the morning on 15th January with the attendance of Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan and departmental officials.

First, the Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan clarified preparedness, preparations and providing assistance regarding with the disasters in the state. The Union Minister Dr. Thet thet Khaing explained the social welfare tasks, natural disaster management works, rehabilitation efforts and humanitarian assistances carrying out by the Ministry.

Next, the state level responsible persons reported the works to be done in the future and the requirements regarding the natural disaster management and social protection efforts.

At the Maina (KBC) and Maina Saint Joseph (RC) IDP camps, the union minister said that people in the camp need to receive vaccination as they are living with crowd, long term in the camp can cause the challenges for the implementations of children’s rights, although the government is providing food assistances, self-reliance is needed for the socio-economic development and for the participation in the resettlement process etc.

The Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan explained the situations of emerging IDP camps due to the conflicts; implementations performed for returning home and the continuation of implementations and gave words of encouragement.

The union minister coordinated to fulfill requirements submitted by the camp in-charge. In the evening, the union minister attended the opening ceremony of Night Market of AyeMyaThaya hyper market, opened the Night Market by cutting ceremonial ribbon together with the responsible persons of MyinZuThar Company Limited and viewed around the market.

In the morning on January 16, the occasion of providing social pension for senior citizens over 85 years old, assistance for volunteer philanthropic homes, self-reliant pre-schools and the IDPs returned from temporary shelter was held at the city hall in Myitkyina and the union minister Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan, deputy commander of northern command Brigadier General Aung Myo Oo, state ministers, departmental officials, township elders, representatives from civil society organizations and the people who are entitled attended.

At the occasion, over 221 million Kyats of assistances for the volunteer youth development philanthropic homes, home for the persons with disabilities, home of the aged, social pension for senior citizens over 85 years old, self-reliant pre-schools and the IDPs returned from temporary shelter.

Afterward, the union minister also inspected the warehouse of disaster management department in Kachin State, rehabilitation training for the youth with withdrawal from drug addiction opened in rehab camp in Myitkyina, domestic vocational training schoo (Myitkyina) and No (1) pre-school of Myitkyina.
