
South Korea's privacy watchdog on Wednesday fined Google and Meta a combined 72 million USD for tracking the online behaviors of consumers without proper consent and using their information for targeted advertisements. The fines represented South Korea's biggest-ever penalties issued for privacy law violations.According to the commission, Facebook and Instagram didn't clearly inform users or obtain their prior consent as they collected and analyzed information about their online behavior and used the gathered data to create customized ads.The commission ordered the companies to provide an "easy and clear" process of consent.Google and Meta didn't immediately comment on the fines.
