

Shanghai has taken measures to deal with food shortages as the city entered the second week of complete lockdown due to the highly contagious omicron BA.2 variant.
More delivery workers have been able to get back to work. About 3,000 additional workers would participate in Shanghai's distribution of supplies. This was to relieve the pressure on deliveries, allowing supplies to finally reach every household. Nearly 25,000 new local virus cases, of which only 1,006 people had symptoms, were reported on Saturday. Shanghai Vice Mayor said on Saturday that the lockdown could soon be lifted or eased in communities that report no positive cases within 14 days, after another round of citywide COVID-19 testing. China's top health official said that the current control measure, the so-called targeted zero-COVID approach, was proved effective as Shanghai hadn't seen an exponentially increase in positive cases.
