Shahbaz Sharif sworn in as Pakistan PM

Pakistan's parliament elected opposition lawmaker Shahbaz Sharif as the new Prime Minister, following a week of political turmoil that led to the weekend ouster of former premier Imran Khan.

Sharif, the brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, won with 174 votes. Sharif also promised to start the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor with "full speed" and to repair "relations with the US." He has served three times as chief minister of Pakistan's largest, most influential Punjab province, home to 60% of the country's 220 million people.Khan, a former cricket star, was ousted early Sunday after losing a no-confidence vote.
