Sesame market: Japan white sesame fetched high price

Japan white sesame production was booming and getting high price in cultivation lands in Kyaukse district, Mandalay Region. 

There are normal White Sesame, yellow sesame, brown sesame and black sesame Among them, Japan white sesame fetch high price.  According to the price index in the third week of June, the prevailing price of 1 bag of Japan white sesame is sold for 230,000 kyats.

U Soe Win Myint, Soe Win Myint brokerage (Mandalay) said "We called it as Japan white sesame that we cultivate sesame seeds from Japan species. Japan white sesame is whiter than normal white sesame and the size is bigger .So, it is a marketable crop with high price in the market. Regarding with the Japan white sesame market, we exports 90 per cent of sesame products to our neighboring country, China. In 2022, we get higher price than other years. "

Japan white sesame has been grown since 10 years ago in Myanmar, mainly cultivated as summer sesame in Kyaukse district.

U Soe Win Myint, Soe Win Myint brokerage (Mandalay) said "I would like to suggest that is we have to harvest sesame seeds depend on the weather condition. During harvest season, we should have to keep them not to be wet. The buyers from China measure the sesame with moisture tester machine, wet and dry refining machine and acid test machine. If the sesame get wet, they will increase acidity that can damage yield and crops, as a result we cannot get high price. "

In the Mandalay crops and sesame market, brown sesame seed is priced at 165,000 Kyats per bag while normal white sesame is priced at 190,000 Kyats it is learnt.
