






A drill simulating search and rescue operations for cyclone and flood disasters in 2025 was held at the Tayar Hlut Taw Jetty (near the High Court Office) in Mandalay Ward, in Mawlamyaing, Mon State on May 3. The exercise aimed to ensure Mon State can conduct timely and effective search and rescue operations in the event of natural disasters.
The event was attended by Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein, Chief Justice of State High Court, Mon State government ministers, departmental officials, members of departmental forces participating in the drill, and civil society organizations.
The proceedings commenced with a flood rescue drill, where the step-by-step processes of rescue operations were simulated. The Mon State Chief Minister, State Chief Justice and Mon State government ministers observed and encouraged the participants.
Next, the Chief Minister addressed the participants regarding cyclone preparedness. He noted that due to global climate change, natural disasters are occurring more frequently worldwide each year. He urged all involved to actively and cooperatively participate in their respective roles under the leadership of the State Natural Disaster Management Committee, outlining procedures for pre-disaster preparedness, actions during a disaster, and post-disaster recovery efforts.
After that, the Chief Minister presented honorary awards to the members of the cyclone and flood search and rescue demonstration teams. He then inspected the natural disaster rescue equipment, lifeboats, and overall preparedness of Mon State civil society rescue organizations, offering support and fulfilling necessary requirements.
