School enrollment: School enrollment for new Academic Year begun

Enrollment for basic education schools under the Department of Basic Education for the 2025–2026 academic year began on May 22nd across Myanmar.

The academic year will commence on June 2, and the enrollment period has been designated from May 22, through June 1.

Dr. Thwe Thwe Oo, Principal, Practicing High School, Kamayut said "The school registration process for the 2025–2026 academic year began on May 22, 2025. Last year, there were 3,342 students who either transferred from other schools or passed the exams. The Grade 12 exam results have not yet been released. As of the evening of May 25, a total of 2,788 students have registered for school."

The registration process has been divided into two phases. From May 22 to June 1, registration is being accepted for returning students. For new students transferring from different regions, registration will begin on May 29. Therefore, since May 29 has not yet arrived, it is not yet possible to compare this year's registration numbers to last.

Wah Wah Khine, Parent said "I’m from Hlaing Township. During the second week of school enrollment, I enrolled both my son and daughter, who will be attending Grade 4 and Grade 7 respectively. The enrollment processes this year is the same as in previous years — there haven’t been any significant changes. We also received the school supplies and materials provided by the government."

It is learnt that on the first day of the enrollment period, over 1.2 million students have already registered at government schools, private schools, and monastic education schools nationwide. Authorities have also confirmed that local security personnel and community volunteers are actively involved in ensuring safety and security at schools for the benefit of teachers, students, and parents.
