Peace in Syria can be reached only by political and diplomatic efforts, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a joint news conference after three-way talks on Monday. Putin said the list of the Syrian constitutional committee has been fully agreed and he also said Russia was ready to support the Syrian army in targeted actions on "terrorists in Syria".

Russian leader also emphasized that all foreign troops should be pulled out from Syria eventually, after peace is reached in the country. Speaking after talks between leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran, Putin also said that from his point of view the deployment of U.S. troops in Syria was illegal.

The leaders met in Ankara to try to advance peace efforts in Syria's northwest. The summit focused on the Idlib region, the last remaining territory held by rebels seeking to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.
