Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, early on Thursday morning. The two met in the eastern city of Santiago, 900 km from Havana, during a brief stopover ahead of Lavrov's Latin American tour. In Santiago, Lavrov visited the tombs of Cuban national hero Jose Marti and former President Fidel Castro. From Cuba, Lavrov will fly to Mexico and is expected to visit Caracas, Venezuela by the end of the week. Russia is one of the strongest allies of the country's embattled socialist President Nicolas Maduro.
