United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that a deal with Iran to halt the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz remains possible within days, despite recent US defensive strike.

Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State said "The straits have to be open. They're going to be open one way or the other. The straits need to be open, unimpeded, without tolls. And obviously that needs to happen immediately as soon as anything is agreed to."

Rubio defended the strikes as necessary but emphasized that the US is giving diplomacy every chance to succeed. He noted that Iran has agreed to negotiate aspects of its nuclear program that it previously refused to discuss.
