Robots, contactless technologies at Beijing Olympics

Robots and contactless technologies are on full display at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, which is being held in a strict COVID-19 bubble. From automated disinfection of hotels where visitors are staying, or room service delivery by a robot that can automatically get on and off elevators, robots are helping prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 cases at the Winter Games.

This is part of China's effort to minimize transmission of the virus at the Winter Games, where the number of cases have remained relatively low. More than 13,600 foreign participants and stakeholders arrived at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and nearly 2 million COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far, according to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games. Positive cases have remained low at a total of 436 among all participants.
