Robbery Ring Busted: Robbery ring in MDY Region busted

In Mandalay Region, a series of frequent robberies and thefts were reportedly carried out by gangs disguising themselves in camouflage uniforms and impersonating security personnel in areas including Mandalay City urban area, Amarapura, Kyaukse, and Myitnge townships. In an effort to apprehend the perpetrators, the Myanmar Police Force launched investigations and successfully arrested key suspects.

On May 5, 2025, the police arrested 29-year-old Nay Htet Lin, residing in Mya Yay Nandar Ward, Chanmyathazi Township, who was identified as a ringleader in multiple robbery and theft cases. Based on Nay Htet Lin’s confession, police continued investigations and arrested additional members of the gang.

A total of 17 individuals were apprehended including 15 men and 2 women along with evidence including 4 pistols, 3 vehicles, 1 motorcycle, and 4 sets of camouflage uniforms. According to their confessions, the gang was involved in the crimes of a carjacking of a FORD Double Cab vehicle driven by Ko Thi Han from Khinlulay Village in Tada-U Township, a robbery at the “Maung Dein” gold shop in Amarapura Township, a theft of 84 mobile phones and over 700,000 Kyats in cash from “Sky Star Mobile” in Chanmyathazi Township, robberies at “U Than Tun + Daw Khin Yi” and “U Than Naing + Daw Thu Zar Win” gold shops in the Kyaukse Myoma market, an armed robbery at the “Hse Than ” gold shop in Maha Aung Myay Township, a home invasion at Daw Swe Zin Htun’s residence in Hton Tone Ward, Chanmyathazi Township, where over 11.9 million Kyats in cash were robbed, an armed robbery at “Mya Thazin” clothing store in Sin Ywa Myinmu Village, Amarapura Township, and another robbery at “Shwe Zarmani” gold shop in Aung Pinle Ward, Chanmyathazi Township.

Investigations revealed that the gang members committed these crimes while impersonating security personnel, using this disguise to mislead their victims and facilitate the crimes. The Myanmar Police Force announced that legal action is being taken against the 17 arrested individuals in accordance with the law. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects involved and to recover any remaining weapons, ammunition, and stolen property.
