Honorary Title : Honorary Professorship conferred to the President

President U Min Aung Hlaing has been conferred an Honorary Professorship by the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Moscow, Russia.

The honorary title was presented during a ceremony held at the university’s graduation hall on Wednesday. Prior to the event, President U Min Aung Hlaing met with Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Rector of the university and discussed on academic matters and plans to promote educational cooperation between Myanmar and G.V. Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

This was followed by the ceremony to confer the Honorary Professorship, which began with the playing of the national anthems of the two countries. The Russian Deputy Minister and the Rector later explained the purpose of the conferring of the Honorary Professorship to President U Min Aung Hlaing.

Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein also explained the academic journey of the President as well as his contribution to the country including the national defence duties and achievements in political, economic, social and religious fields. Then, the honorary professorship insignia and certificate were formally presented to President U Min Aung Hlaing.

In his remarks, the President expressed his appreciation for being conferred the title of Honorary Professor by Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, saying the distinction could further strengthen strategic cooperation between Myanmar and Russia in education, research and long-term development.

He said bilateral cooperation had deepened significantly in recent years, particularly in education, the economy, energy, space and the peaceful use of nuclear technology. Emphasizing the role of education and human-resource development for national stability and long-term development, the President said priority has been given to strengthening basic and higher education, by expanding technical and vocational education, and sending students abroad for further study.

He said more than 7,000 Myanmar students have studied in Russia over the past 25 years, expressing gratitude for Russia’s contribution to Myanmar’s human-resource development. He also expressed that Plekhanov Russian University of Economics will play an important role in cooperation with Myanmar universities and wished continued success to the university and enduring friendship between Myanmar and Russia.

The Plekhanov Russian University of Economics has a 119-year history, welcomes international students from 75 countries and has made significant contributions to economics and other fields. An honorary professorship is an academic distinction awarded by a university to recognize an individual’s contributions to education, science, and international cooperation. Plekhanov University has also previously awarded honorary professorships to prominent academics and international figures, reflecting its academic and international engagement.
