



Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine attended a review meeting on reducing street children and protection project at the Ministry on Friday.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said that the Ministry is carrying out child protection tasks in various ways and this project has been undertaken for 1 and a half years from October 2021 to March 2023.
As the data analysis of street children has been carried out in the project townships, awareness based on practical field experiences, case management, vocational education, classroom education and supporting non-formal education and participation of relevant departments and organizations will be conducted by designating prioritized areas.
The Director General of the Department of Social Welfare clarified measures that were undertake during the project period and strong and weak points of the project.
Officials from the Departments of Social Welfare in Mandalay Region and Nay Pyi Taw Council Area discussed implementations for reducing street children and protection plan, facing challenges, reviews on the project and future plans.
In the conclusion, the Union Minister said that one of the main reasons for being a street child is poverty.
It can be reviewed that it depends on social culture conditions that are difficult to solve such as the background of children and families, environmental conditions, their perception of life, attitude of the society and interaction. The better case management will be carried out in the similar cases by taking the experiences that have been faced in the project townships.
The street children reducing and proection project has been designated for 18 months from October 2021 to March 2023 and it intended for 100 street children in Pyinmana Township in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Maha Aung Myay, Pyi Gyi Tagun, Aung Myay Thazan and Chan Aye Thazan Townships of Mandalay Region, Dagon Seikkan, Mingala Taung Nyunt, Hlaing and Kyimyindaing Twonships in Yangon Region.
