Review Meeting on Peace Process: NSPNC and NCA-S EAOs held 2nd day of review meeting

The Union Government, with the aim of strengthening internal peace and building a union based on democracy and federalism, has been accelerating dialogue with ethnic armed organizations.

With the objective of establishing more effective peace processes and finding practical ways to implement the outcomes of existing negotiations, the second day of the review meeting on the peace process between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and NCA signatory ethnic armed organizations (NCA-S EAOs) was held Tuesday morning at the M Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.

The meeting was attended by NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing and committee members, along with the leader of the NCA-S EAOs Negotiation Team and RCSS Secretary (1) Sao Sai Ngin စဝ်စိုင်းငင်း, KNU/KNLA Peace Council Secretary (1) Saw Kyaw Nyunt, New Mon State Party (NMSP) Central Executive Committee member Naing Aung Ma Ngay , Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) Adjutant General Saw Sein Win, Lahu Democratic Union (LDU) General Secretary Kyar Ya Kok , Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) General Secretary Saw Mra Thandar and coordinators U Myo Win and Nan Yin Yin Soe.

During the meeting, Negotiation Committee member Lt. Gen. Khin Zaw Oo (Retd.) presented and discussed a framework for a more inclusive peace process based on the essence and achievements of the NCA. The meeting then continued with discussions on items remaining from the first day.

Subsequently, the two-day discussions and consultations were documented. The discussions covered the following topics on advancing a peace process based on the NCA, resolving political issues through political means and working toward political dialogue meetings with the participation of all relevant stakeholders, facilitating meetings among negotiation delegations, achieving stability and development in EAO-base areas, providing humanitarian assistance and integrating regional development with the peace process, cooperating with relevant NCA-S EAOs in organizing public-based discussions and forums at the region or state level, seeking domestic and international technical assistance and continuing informal meetings and bilateral engagements.

Afterward, NSPNC Secretary Lt. Gen. Min Naing, discussed the continuation of the peace process based on the essence of the NCA as derived from the two days of discussions, confidence-building measures, efforts to bring in EAOs that have not yet signed the NCA as well as those that have signed but have drifted away from the NCA path for various reasons, sustained dialogue, and future peace process steps. Following this, based on the two days of consultations, a consolidated statement was documented and signed. The closing remarks were delivered by the Leader of the NCA-S EAOs Negotiation Team and RCSS Secretary (1) Sao Sai Ngin , and NSPNC Chairman Lt. Gen. Yar Pyae, it’s reported.
