


A ceremony to honour Mon national Buddhist monks and devotees who were conferred the religious titles, took place in Yangon on Monday.
Mon Sasana Supporting Committee (Yangon) organized this ceremony to honor 18 monks and 7 devotees who were conferred religious titles 2020 by the government.
Chairman, Mon Sasana Supporting Committee, Naing Chit Pe said “Our committee was founded in 1368 Myanmar era with the aim to promote and propagate the Buddha Sasana and to honor the Mon national laypersons for their contributions in the welfare of the communities. According to the objectives of the committee, we hold such kind of ceremony annually. We are very proud because 18 monks and 7 laypersons of our Mon nationals were presented the religious titles for the year of 2020.”
These religious titles are conferred annually by the government to the honorable monks as well as devotees on a special occasion during the full moon day of Tabaung.
Title Recipient Sayadaw, Buddanta Kaysara said “I was conferred the religious title of Agga Mahapandita which is one of the wisdom titles. I am teaching about 80 monks at my monastery. I am pleased to receive this title offered by the government. The ceremony is really great because we can see the unity of Mon people and I’d like to all people including Mon nationals to strive for the propagation of the Sasana.”
For the year of 2020, the religious titles were conferred on 322 monks as well as 50 male and 91 female devotees.
Title Recipient, Maung Thein said “I’m really happy for receiving this title. I made many donations for Peace Pagoda, monasteries, schools and many more. I have more plans to propagate the sasana and I’m now building a monastery for the monks in Mon state.”
Title Recipient, Nandar Hlaing said “I think, this religious title is more valuable than other titles. So, I am very proud of this title. I made many kinds of donation focusing on religion. And I would like to say words of thanks to Mon nationals for honouring us with a ceremony.”
At the ceremony, the certificates of honor were presented to the religious title recipient monks and devotees. They also donated offertories to Sayadaws and monks.
