Relief Measures: Provisions for flood-hit communities in Kachin State

Relief measures are being carried out for the flood-hit communities in PutaO District of Kachin State. Due to the consecutive heavy rainfall since the end of May, Naungmoon, Khaung Lan Phu and Myitkyina faced inundation and the affected communities were evacuated.

The relief supplies provided by the families of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) Office arrived at Myitkyina Air Base on 4th June, and it was transported to PutaO. During the handover ceremony, Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan explained the government’s efforts for ensuring peace and stability in the state, achieving development and socio-economic progress of people, along with food sufficiency.

He also pledged to provide timely rescue and relief works and recovery efforts in case of natural disaster. During the event, various foodstuff and construction materials were provided for the affected communities. Due to the flood, school buildings, residential houses, and bridges in Khaung Lan Phu and Naungmoon Townships were damaged, and repair works are underway.
