Relief Measures : President inspects flood-hit areas and provides assistance

Heavy rainfall in Laymyethna Township of Ayeyawady Region, caused water to breach the sand layer beneath the Ngawun River embankment, resulting in a section of the embankment being lowered.

Flooding subsequently affected wards in Laymyethna town and surrounding villages, as well as villages in Hinthada, Yaykyi and Kyon Pyaw townships. Government authorities, Tatmadaw and security personnel, departmental officials, social organizations and volunteers are jointly conducting rescue and relief operations, while lood-affected residents are being evacuated at temporary shelters.

On Sunday, President U Min Aung Hlaing made aerial inspection on flood-affected areas and observed ongoing measures to protect the Ngawun River embankment, where subsidence had occurred at Mile Post 25/3. The President also visited flood-affected residents in Laymyethna Township and met with them at Laharpa လဟာပ Village Monastery.

He spoke with the residents, and offered encouragement, pledging to support as much as possible to restore normalcy in the area. The President also presented relief supplies to those affected by the flooding. The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement also provided 19.14 million kyat for vulnerable group among the flood-hit victims. The President later viewed the health care services provided by the Hinthada District Mobile Medical Team to the flood victims, and gave words of encouragement.
