






A coordination meeting was held on 16th May for drafting a Town Plan to rebuild office buildings and staff housing damaged by the Mandalay earthquake in Nay Pyi Taw Council area. The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo and departmental officials.
First, the Union Minister said that in order to draw up a Town Plan for the reconstruction of damaged infrastructures, new buildings must withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8 on the Richter scale. He has also distributed Standard Operating Procedures to be followed in the maintenance of buildings and the construction of new ones, and urged all to follow these procedures in the renovation and construction of new buildings.
The meeting discussed the chosen site for new Town Plan, conducting soil test, cooperation plans and future process, standardization for urban land usage, basic rules for drafting Town Plan. The Union Minister instructed that the selection of land for the Town Plan and the conduct of soil tests to be carried out as soon as possible.
After the meeting, the Union Minister and officials visited the work site at the Dhana Theikdi Ward in Zabuthiri Township where modular houses were being installed for temporary housing of the staff. Officials explained the installation process of the modular houses. A total of 188 modular houses measuring 20 feet long and 10 feet wide will be constructed for temporary housing of the staff families, with 64 units planned for Phase 1 and 124 units for Phase 2.
