Receiving Delegation: MoH Union Minister received Country Director of UNAIDS

A delegation led by DR. Rangaiyan Gurumurthy, Country Director of the Office of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Myanmar, paid a courtesy call to the Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win at the Ministry in the morning on 10th February.

At the call, the Union Minister said that such a serving as a country director in Myanmar is welcome, amidst the challenges regarding with the COVID-19 pandemic and human resource, the ministry has done at its best for combating the HIV/AIDS and for the patients not to run short of ART medicine and the requirement of technical assistance provided by the UNAIDS to meet the goals of the ministry in combating the HIV/AIDS.

The UNAIDS Director expressed his appreciation for Myanmar’s achievement in the COVID-19 prevention and controlling measure, the Ministry’s effort for the patients not to run short of ART medicine amidst the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic and human resources,the continuation of assistance for the Ministry’s efforts for combating the HIV/AIDS will be provided.

Then, both sides exchanged views on the matters of cooperation to meet the goals of “End Inequalities, EndAIDS” which is Global AIDS Strategy 2021-2026,matters on the providing technical assistance and the continuation of cooperation. Also present at the call were the deputy minister,director general (Union Minister’s Office), director general (Public Health Department, deputy permanent secretary and officials.
