Forum on Rebuilding Myanmar: Post Earthquake Economic Recovery took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

The forum was jointly organized by the Myanmar Narrative Think Tank (MNTT) and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) under the supervision of the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Commerce.

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn made a speech, emphasizing the need to make strenuous efforts for recovery of areas affected by the severe earthquake. He also acknowledged the active participation of the affected communities in rescue and relief efforts despite their griefs. He expressed his belief that Myanmar will achieve in implementing the economic recovery after the earthquake with the collective efforts of all individuals under the leadership of the government.

Union Minister U Tun Ohn also stressed the sales of construction materials needed for the reconstruction of damaged buildings, at which over 45 billion kyat worth of exhibited items were sold to the public with the reasonable prices during a week-long sales in Nay Pyi Taw. He also added that efforts are being made for reoperation of MSME businesses in quake-hit areas which could be the major driving force for recovery efforts.

The Chairman of the UMFCCI and MNTT also made speeches at the forum. This was followed by the discussions on the topics covering the economic impact, challenges and opportunities for economic recovery, and solutions for economic remedy. The forum is scheduled to continue on May 31st, outlining the future processes for cooperation between the government and private sector.
