



Myanmar is rich in bamboos and rattans and also produces bamboo handicrafts. These handicrafts and items are extensively used in local.
The Department of Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology said that the techniques are necessary for better raw materials to be able to penetrate bamboo handicrafts into the international market.
Dr Phyu Phyu Win, Director General, Department of Research and Innovation said “To penetrate a bamboo handicraft into the international market, there are many necessary things. The raw materials must be good ant not be worm-eaten. We also need techniques for scale and colouring. We also need quality control and logo or trademark for the finished products.”
If Myanmar can import quality and innovative bamboo handicrafts, they can be penetrated into the international market. To provide innovative ideas to the local bamboo craft industry, the training and trainers of bamboo handicrafts course and training on sustainable development of bamboo innovation products in Mekong Region were conducted in Yangon in the last week of January under Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2020).
