Pyithu Hluttaw Session: 8th day of 2nd regular session of 3rd Phithu Hluttaw held

The eighth day of the Second Regular Session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Pyithu Hluttaw chamber at the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw.

The session was attended by Speaker U Khin Yi, the Deputy Speaker, and Pyithu Hluttaw representatives. During the meeting, representatives raised and discussed a total of 10 questions, including whether there are plans to formulate a project and issue farmland use certificates for coffee and tea plantations cultivated by local ethnic farmers in the eastern mountainous region of Pyinmana Township,. whether there are plans to expand the urban boundary of Kyaukse by incorporating villages adjacent to the town’s ten wards and designating them as urban land, whether Kalay General Hospital can be upgraded from a 300-bed hospital to a 500-bed hospital, equipped with modern medical equipment, and whether a neurosurgeon and a Level-2 radiology specialist can be appointed to meet the hospital’s needs.

The relevant Union Ministers and Deputy Ministers responded to the questions. The Hluttaw then discussed a motion submitted by Dr. Htay Win, representative for Ingapu Constituency, urging the Union Government to establish a Crop Price Stabilization Commission for agricultural products from farmland, alluvial island farms, and orchards.

Representatives participated in the debate, after which Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Ye Tint Tun provided explanations and comments on the motion. Following deliberations, the motion calling for the establishment of a Crop Price Stabilization Commission was put to a vote.

As it received majority support, the Speaker announced that the motion had been approved. The Speaker then sought the approval of the Hluttaw for the formation of several committees that had previously been presented to the Hluttaw on the seventh day of the session, including the Hotels, Tourism and Culture Committee, together with its duties, powers, entitlements, term of office, and meeting procedures, the Banking and Financial Development Committee, the Planning and Financial Development Committee, together with their duties, powers, entitlements, term of office, and meeting procedures.

The Speaker also submitted proposals for the formation of the Economic and Trade Development Committee, the Transport, Communications, Digital and Science & Technology Committee, and the Rule of Law and Stability Committee, including details regarding their chairpersons, secretaries, and membership.

The Deputy Speaker then explained the duties, powers, entitlements, terms of office, and meeting procedures of these committees. The Speaker further informed the Hluttaw that the “Online Scam Prevention Bill,” which had been approved by the Amyotha Hluttaw with amendments, had been officially received by the Pyithu Hluttaw. The eighth day of the Second Regular Session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw was then adjourned. The ninth day of the session will be held on June 17, it’s reported.
