With the arrangement of Yangon Region Development Committee, now drinking water can be supplied to the locals in Seik Gyi Khanaung Toe.
Before, people from Seik Gyi Khanaung Toe in Yangon region used river and lake water and they faced scarcity of drinking water. Now, with the supervision of Yangon City Development Committee, water purification machine has been installed there for the availability of drinking water.
Resident, Swe Swe Win said “We used water from Sabai lake before. If the water is not sufficient from the lake, we took it from the creek. But, the lake water is not safe for drinking. We are so delighted to getting drinking water. We had free drinking water for three months. Now, we buy a bottle for 200 kyats.”
Resident, Myint Aung said “We live in the western part of Seik Gyi Khanaung Toe. We used lake water before. In summer, water in the lake becomes less and so, the drinking water is not safe for us. Now, it is convenient for us because of drinking water supply.”
According to the Chairman of Seik Gyi Khanaung Toe Township Development Committee, they cost more than 900,000 kyats per month for the staffs and electric meter fees. With the decision of the committee, they collect 200 kyats for a bottle.
Chairman, Development Committee (Seik Gyi Khanaung Toe), Zaw Win said “Although the scarcity of drinking water can be reduced, it can’t meet cent per cent. The locals can solve the problems on drinking water at a certain extent. With the arrangement of Yangon City Development Committee, we dug a lake. We take water from this lake for purifying. We collect 200 kyats for a bottle because of the cost.”
Due to drinking water supply, the locals can solve difficulties at a certain extent although the summer season sets in. But it can’t fulfill cent per cent to the needs of the locals according to Seik Gyi Khanaung Toe Township Development Committee.
