Public housing project: Coordination meeting on construction of public housing held

With the aims at the convenient accommodation for the low-income people, creating job opportunities through the construction sector, completion of construction works in time meeting the quality and standards, the Public Housing Construction Project Steering Committee held the 12th coordination meeting at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Construction in Nay Pyi Taw on 24th June.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister for Construction U Shwe Lay in his capacity as the Chairman of Public Housing Construction Project Steering Committee said that under the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan, the Public Housing 10,000 rooms project’s first phase 5008 rooms are being implemented by the federations concerning the construction.

The project has completed at 98% in Nay Pyi Taw, 90% in Mandalay and 56% in Yangon. Regarding with the fund, over 105 billion Kyats including 93 billion by the Union Government and 12.5 billion by region government have been spent.

The public housing project is being implemented with 28 units of buildings in Nay Pyi Taw, 194 in Yangon and 91 in Mandalay. As it’s a massive project, the implementation with good linkage among the  quality control groups and project management units by the three federations with the full responsibility and accountability is needed.

Next, the secretary of public housing project deputy minister for construction clarified the simultaneous implementation of public housing construction works in Yangon and Mandalay, status of completing first phase of project and the work process to be done.

Then, the deputy minister for planning and finance Daw Than Than Lin gave necessary suggestions regarding with the complying to the financial rules and regulations, 1/2022 directives and work procedures and the request of fund for the next portion of construction based on the completion of work.

Next, the member of Nay Pyi Taw Council Col. Min Naung, Chairman of YCDC Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay, Mandalay region minister for natural resources U Myo Aung discussed the completion of public housing project works, matters on the quality, progress of the work and work process to be done and the matters on the finance.

Afterward, the permanent secretaries, director-general and deputy director-generals from the relevant ministries, chairmen of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Federation (MCEF), Myanmar Licensed Contractors Association (MLCA) and Myanmar Developer Association (MDA) discussed the related matters and the Union Minister made the approvals and decisions of the meeting and coordinated for the achievement of the project works and timely completion of the project.
