Providing Assistance: Relief measures for cyclone hit areas in Rakhine State

Member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister, Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, together with the Union Ministers, Senior Military Officers, the Chief Minister of Rakhine State, the Deputy Ministers and officials, arrived at Shwe Min Gan Jetty in Sittwe on Wednesday.

They inspected the loading of relief items to be provided to the cyclone victims in Maungdaw and Buthidaung Townships. The relief items included two water tankers with purifier, rice, edible oil and provisions, construction materials, medicines and medical equipment.

On arrival at Thetkaypyin Village, they met with the victims, being sheltered at No.10 Basic Education High School. They comforted the locals and provided rice, instant noodles and drinking water. The similar assistance were also provided to the cyclone hit victims in Khaung Dokkar Village.

The Deputy Prime Minister and party later proceeded to Ponnakyun and inspected the damages at the Basic Education High School, the Suspension Bridge, Township People’s Hospital and Administration Office. They instructed for speedy implementation of renovation works and provided the needs. On arrival at Myoma Monastery, the Deputy Prime Minister and party inspected the damages caused by the Cyclone and provided 30 million kyats cash assistance and foodstuff.

They also met with the cyclone victims from Sittwe at Lawka Nanda Pagoda compound and provided foodstuff, utensils and cash assistance. The provisions included over 6,000 bags of rice, over 7,000 visses of edible oil, over 6,000 visses of salt, 17 household utensil kits, instant noodle packs, and tarpaulin sheets. The Chairman of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization and artists also provided foodstuff and utensils, donated by Sayadaw Ashin Sekeinda.
