



Ministry of Health together with World Health Organization (WHO), international health organizations have been working closely for preventive and control measures against 2019 novel coronaviurs (2019-nCoV).
According to the data announcement on 2019 novel coronavirus reported by the Chinese health authorities on Thursday, the total number of confirmed cases jumped to 7,711, 12,167 suspected and 170 deaths in China.
The health authorities said medical screenings and surveillance measures to prevent 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been places on alert at the Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay International airport, seaports as well as border crossings across the country.

Representative to Myanmar, World Health Organization, Dr. Stephan Paul Jost said "...WHO globally is keeping very close eyes on the situation, collecting and seeing all the evidences that are coming so far... At the same time, there is potential for further spread especially within China still actually most of the transmission is taking place. And in the limited way, also beyond China because we've seen that the virus has gained also foot hold in other countries. And it's very important that a proper containment measures are taking place.... WHO works with all the Ministry of health in all the countries in the world, basically, and of course, first and foremost with the Ministry of Health in China...."
Meanwhile, WHO said they are still not declaring current outbreak as a global emergency yet. WHO also shared protective measures for the people and added continuation efforts to support Myanmar in dealing with the situations.
Representative to Myanmar, World Health Organization, Dr. Stephan Paul Jost said "...What all of us can do is really just to emphasize, protect yourself and others by good hand hygiene, wash your hand frequently with soap and water, observe good cough etiquette always cover the nose and mouth, avoid unprotected contact with wild animals that is very important in itself.... in case you experience the symptoms of fever, coughing, difficulties breathing and shortness of breath particularly if they are coming combination, immediately seek medical advices and let the health staff know your travel history so that past possibility can be aboard follow up and also excluded that there may be a link with this new virus.... The day after tomorrow we will support a meeting for partners to come together to how best to coordinate our efforts to support Myanmar in dealing with this..."
The Hubei city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, is already under virtual lockdown, with severe restrictions on movement in place in several other Chinese cities. The newly-identified coronavirus can cause pneumonia, which has been deadly in some cases. Thailand, Hong Kong, the United States, Macau, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Canada and Nepal have reported cases of infection.
