Kayin traditional wrist-tying ceremony marking the month of Wagaung was held at the City Hall in Nyaungdone Township on Friday morning.

The ceremony was organized by the Nyaungdon Township Kayin Literature and Culture Association. Union Consultative Council member Manh Nyein Maung, together with official, formally opened the ceremony by beating the traditional frog drum nine times.

Participants also paid respect to the Kayin national flag. During the ceremony, the Council member and other officials delivered speeches. Members of social organizations and Kayin residents from across the township also took part in the traditional wrist-tying ceremony.

The Wagaung-month wrist-tying ceremony is an important Kayin cultural tradition. During the ceremony, white cotton threads are tied around participants’ wrists as a symbol of blessings, protection, unity and well-being.
