Yangon General Hospital conducted a large-scale emergency response drill, simulating a mass casualty incident caused by a natural disaster. The drill took place on May 23 with the participation of about 200 personnel from various sectors. The drill aimed to enhance preparedness and reduce the impact of potential natural disasters by ensuring timely medical response and coordination.
During the simulation, around 40 mock patients were brought to the hospital’s emergency department, triggering an emergency scenario. In response, the hospital activated its Mass Casualty Incident Management Plan (2025) and immediately established an Emergency Incident Command Team.
Under this central command, six operational teams were formed including Security, Medical Treatment and Support, Emergency Supply and Logistics, Coordination and Liaison, Communication and Media and Social Engagement.
In addition, six support units of Radiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Blood Donation Bank, Blood Distribution and Medical Storage and Supply were activated. All units worked in close coordination, demonstrating a swift and organized response to the simulated crisis.
Following the exercise, a debriefing session was held at the hospital’s Training Center to evaluate the performance and identify areas for improvement.
