Power Supply: Inspection of Middle Paung Laung Hydropower Plant

Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han on Sunday inspected implementation of the Middle Paung Laung Hydropwer Project about 20 miles northeast of Pyinmana Township in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.

There, he inspected the state of completion of the main dam earth rock excavation work, status of completion of water diversion system work and status of completion of earth/rock excavation for construction of power plant, heard reports and gave necessary instructions.

The Union Minister also inspected completion of the Middle Paung Laung river-crossing bridge in the project area. And, at the briefing hall, he stressed that the work plans that will continue to be implemented in the Project are to be systematically developed and submitted quickly.

If any difficulties arise during the operations, they will be reported in a timely manner and the department will cooperate and help with what is needed, the Union Minister added.

Upon completion, the Middle Paung Laung Hydropwer plant will generate annual average of 592 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. 8% of the project has now been completed by the government and the Pan Theingi Energy Co., Ltd. will take care of the rest under the IPP/BOT system. It’s also reported that the plan is to start power generation in 2026-2027.
