Peru approached a grim milestone on Monday because it neared 200,000 coronavirus cases. The latest report from the Ministry of Health reported over 195,000 cases as the infection rate continued to surge. Health care personnel are struggling to keep up with the infection rate by administering rapid tests at local hospitals.

Meanwhile, national police raided an illegal oxygen distribution center. Oxygen has become a top sought resource in recent weeks. Peruvian President spoke on the 139th anniversary of the Battle of Arica, saying that Peru would emerge stronger from the fight against COVID-19. Peru ranks as the world's eighth most infected country. It has also registered close to 5,500 deaths since the first case on March 6.
