Pauk-Phaw Friendship: 6th Myanmar-China Twin City Media Forum

With the aims to boost Myanmar-China Pauk-Phaw friendship through media cooperation, the 6th Myanmar-China Twin City Media Forum and Cultural Exchange Week was held in Yangon on 28th July.

The panel discussion was moderated by the Chairman of Myanmar Press Council and 8 media professionals from Myanmar and China discussed the topic entitled “Knowledge Sharing on Building Myanmar-China Economic Corridor”. The discussion focused bilateral media cooperation on media security, delivering unbiased information to the public, disaster risk preventions, border security and trade, renewable energy and agricultural cooperation.

Chairman, U Ko Ko, Myanmar Narrative Think Tank said " Myanmar and China share a long-standing "Pauk-Phaw" friendship for many centuries with close culture and tradition. It can be said that bilateral friendship will further be strengthened more and more in future. During President U Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to the People’s Republic of China, the two Heads of State discussed matters on implementing China-Myanmar Economic Corridor as soon as possible. As Myanmar and China share a long border, cultural exchanges play vital to strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples. This media forum paves the way to assist more economic cooperation, promote border areas development and peace-building efforts."

In 2019, Myanmar-China Twin City Media Forum was held in Kunming of China for the first time and Kunming Declaration was adopted. Starting from 2024, Myanmar-China Cultural Exchange Week was held back to back with the media forum. Since then, the Information Ministry of Yunnan Provincial Government and the Ministry of Information of Myanmar have been collaborating the media cooperation. This time was the 5th Twin City Media Forum, held in Yangon.

Chief Editor, Cho Thet Tun, Shwe Zarmani Journal said " This is the first time of holding Myanmar-China Twin City Media Forum and Cultural Exchange Week in Myanmar. The forum focuses on strengthening media cooperation between the two countries. Through the discussions among media professionals, we can also know current development in China at the same time we can convey Myanmar current situations to Chinese. I believe that people-to-people cooperation and understanding between the two countries will be enhanced by holding this kind of event."

In the afternoon, the discussion continued on the topic entitled “News reporting and combating fake news in the era of AI”. It was moderated by President of Communication University of China Press, Mr. Zhang Yuqiang and the media professionals from Myanmar and China participated in the discussion.

In order to boost “Pauk-Phaw” Friendship and mutual cooperation between the two countries, the cultural and media exchanges will accelerate cross-border trade, tourism, agriculture and preservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage. Definitely, the forum through the exchanges of deep insights by Think Tank and media professionals, Myanmar-China cooperation and understanding will deepen future cooperation.
