Paritta Recitation: Sanghas And Monks Prays For Being Safe From Pandemic Disease

To prevent and to be free from COVID-19 disease around the world including Myanmar, Sayadaws and monks in Mandalay recited parittas and religious suttas at U Bein Bridge on 22nd march.  

After the COVID-19 disease has been announced as a global pandemic by WHO, the public is raising concerns around the world. Although the confirmed case of COVID-19 has not been found yet in Myanmar, preventive measures have being conducted across the country with the participation of the relevant government departments, health organizations, social organizations and the people.  

Chairman, Township Sangha Mahanayaka Committee, Buddhanta Eaindra Lawka Linkara said “The reason of reciting parittas at the U Bein Bridge is to prevent COVID 19 disease here because U Bein Bridge is famous not only in local but also around the world. So, many visitors pay a visit here. We hope, paritta recitation will prevent the disease for the people on the other hand. Today, led by senior sayadaws, all monks recite Ratana Sutta, Metta Sutta, Bojjhanga Sutta and Antanatiya Sutta to protect disaster.”

About 38 Sayadaws and monks recited parittas and religious suttas at 3 community halls on U Bein Bridge in Mandalay.

Chairman, Taung Min Gyi Pagoda Board of Trustees, Than Myint said “The paritta reciting aims to pray for the people around the world to prevent the natural disasters including COVID-19. Not only monks but also the residents join the paritta recitation ceremony.”

At the same time, distributing pamphlets, sharing health knowledge and posting vinyl about COVID-19 had been conducted at the U Bein Bridge, it’s learnt.
