At least 53 people died and 29 were injured after a bus collided with a truck on Wednesday in a village in Cameroon's west, officials said. A speeding truck transporting fuel ran into the 70 seat-bus transporting passengers from the coastal commercial city of Douala to Bafoussam, the authorities said.

The truck and the bus caught fire. But, the truck driver escaped after the crash. Hundreds of people were rushing to Santchou to find out if their relatives were dead or alive. The government blames reckless drivers and the poor state of vehicles, while drivers blame the poor state of the roads.
