Opening the Faculty of Social Work: Working Committee organizes third meeting

The Cirriculum Drafting and Human Resource Development Working Committee organized the 3rd work coordination meeting for the opening of the Faculty of Social Work at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine said that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Education to confer  a bachelor's degree in social studies after establishing the Faculty of Social Work. In 2024-2025 academic year, the first year course of social work will be opened and the Bachelor degree of Social Work will be presented.

That’s why, it will coordinate and discuss the arrangements for the approval of the first year curriculum. After the opening of the course, Nay Pyi Taw State Academy will confer a degree in social studies and so it will have an opportunity for those interested in social work and the employment opportunities will also be created.

The Union Minister added that the professors from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences have reviewed the draft curriculum as Technical Advisors and it has also coordinated with the Indian Embassy to provide the necessary trainings. She called on experts from relevant ministries, external social experts and members of the Core Team of the Department of Social Welfare to discuss the necessary facts on the curriculum to be a complete curriculum for the degree in social work. Later, officials discussed general affairs and adopted future plans.
