








The ceremony commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held at the City Hall in Dawei, Tanintharyi Region in the morning on June 26.
At the event, Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, stated that June 26 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This year marks the 38th observance of this day, which is commemorated annually in countries around the world, including Myanmar. He added that various forms of drug trafficking occurring in the region are being tackled by the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, and the Anti-Narcotics Police, who have devised strategic plans based on their respective jurisdictions. He emphasized that public awareness programs conducted daily to reduce and eliminate drug abuse are proving to be an effective method. In line with this, the Department of Education, the Information and Public Relations Department, and the regional police force are collaborating to intensify anti-drug awareness campaigns among the general public and youth/students.
Following this, the Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Min Min Latt, who also serves as the Chairman of the Region Committee on Drug Abuse Control, read the message sent by the Chairman of Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control, Union Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs in commemoration of the 38th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister, the Minister of Security and Border Affairs, and the Region Police Chief Police Colonel Myint Tun presented certificates of honor and awards to those who made outstanding achievements in drug seizure efforts in honor of the 38th observance of the day.
In addition, the Chief Minister and other officials viewed a documentary video outlining the activities of the Region Committee on Drug Abuse Control, as well as an exhibition marking the 38th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
