On Wednesday, Norway has officially decided to join France's "forward nuclear deterrence" program, bringing Oslo under the French nuclear umbrella. Announced by French President Emmanuel Macron and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, the move is a strategic hedging strategy to bolster European security.

During a press, Støre stressed that no nuclear weapons will be deployed on Norwegian soil during peacetime, and his country will not contribute financially to France’s nuclear program. As the nuclear arrangement was signed alongside a comprehensive bilateral defense agreement, Norway becomes the ninth country to join this French-led initiative.
