Normal Routine: No Price Changing For Commodities

Although there are slight increase of commodity prices through panic buying after announcing the Corona virus as a pandemic, Magway Region has seen no panic buying and price changing, according to the residents.

Local villagers said the routines have been as usual in their villages although heard about panic buying in some places.

Villager, NyaungKan Village, Theint Nyunt said “I heard there are panic buying in some places, but we haven’t here.  I found the official declaration by the government saying not to believe the rumors.”

According to the rice sellers, the prices of major foodstuff, rice and various commodities mostly consume by the grassroot people are not increased, and some shops even reduce the prices of old harvested rice.

Owner, Rice and Edible Oil Shop, Hla Yin Win said “Here is nothing  special. People just buy a little amount as they use to do. Those who use to buy a bag of rice ordered for another extra bag. But the price are normal and we even reduce prices for some types of rice.”

Over the last few days, there are panic buying in some super markets in Yangon Region due to fear of the Corona virus outbreak, but now the operations are in normalcy. Myanmar rice and paddy federation on 13th of March also declared not to be worried as the distribution of rice is in normal condition.
